Winner of the Golden Kite AwardA Top 10 IndieNext PickWinner of the Great Lakes Great Reads Award“I love this book—the characters, the story, but most of all, the voice that writer Jack Cheng has created. See You in the Cosmos is the best I've read in a long, long, long time. It’s a story that changes the way you see the world.” —Holly Goldberg Sloan, author of Counting by 7s "Stellar." —Entertainment Weekly"The more [Alex] learns the truth about his family, the more he begins to wonder what a family really is. And if yours isn’t working well, this novel asks, how do you make a better one? . . . Alex’s voice stayed with me. If extraterrestrials ever did find his Golden iPod, they would think Earthlings were wonderful". —The New York Times Book Review“I haven't read anything that has moved me this much since Wonder . . . The very best books are rare and powerful magic. See You in the Cosmos is one of these. I wanted to stay forever in this funny, wise, beautiful world.” —Jennifer Niven, author of All the Bright Places★ “Poignant and funny . . . propulsive . . . I bought this for my 11 year old daughter. She reads at an 11th grade level and struggles to find books that are both interesting and challenging. SYIC was just AR testable for her. Guys she loved this book. My daughter, who was very proud to have never carried while reading a book, cried twice. It's really hard for her to fund books she enjoys, and she's a bit odd to boot but this fit the bill. It satisfied her intellectual curiosity, was complex enough to engage her, and the characters became her friends. To quote her "This is a really good book."

This is the first book in years that I've read in print AND then purchased the audio version to listen to it. Primarily this was because the book is written as though it's a podcast. Man, was I glad I did that. The actor on the audio was perfect, and the story took on a whole new depth in audio. The accolades you've heard about this book are all true. As soon as you start this book, you feel you know 11-year-old Alex, want to root for him, and admire his spunky, optimistic, determined spirit. It's the story of a boy who has a dream to launch his rocket into space, sending the podcast he's creating to outer space. He wants to let aliens know what life is like on Earth. It's no surprise that he is able to single-handedly accomplish some amazing things, with no help from parents and only a dog named Carl Sagan by his side. If you think this is a book about a kid who loves science, or a kid and his dog, think again. I was not prepared for the many, many surprises in store--all of which rang true. Implausible? Not here, not for Alex. It all makes sense. This is so "real" it will seem almost like an autobiography. It redefines family in a way no one has done before. I can't wait to see Jack Cheng's next novel.

While reading this book, I transformed into that crazy lady who bursts into laughter in the airport, on the train, and waiting in the grocery line. I can't remember the last time reading made me actually laugh out loud (not just a chuckle or a smile). The story is at times funny, endearing, suspenseful, aching, and self-reflective.Don't be fooled -- while this may be classified as a children's book, it is a delight for those who are still young at heart, who are excited to chase their dreams, or who believe in the incredible power of human decency. The protagonist's innocence is a powerful force in the story, maybe even enough to reach beyond the book and affect our own behavior.

My son reads a lot. He loved this book and indicated it was his new favorite.Has all the usual elements of a young boy struggling through life and the cast of characters that help him find himself along the way. Written in a compassionate manner that still speaks to young boys.

Cute read. The only thing I'm a little unhappy with is the form it tries to present: a set of recordings as if it was a diary by an 11-year-old boy trying to reach whatever life form is in outer space, but this only adds to one of the problems the book has. It fails to actually leave the paper sheets and make us forget that we should be hearing it instead of reading it. So, if you actually make it to this review: don't get the paperback, get the audiobook instead. Nonetheless, it will still be a faulty "book" and you'll be hearing someone read it.

Bought this for my 9yo daughter, and she declared it the best book she's read this year!

I read this with my 9 yr old son & we both LOVED it! Very creative & there were a few subjects mentioned in the book I thought were a little advanced for a 9 year old but nothing inappropriate. We thoroughly enjoyed it from cover to cover!

I was going to give it to my grandson for his 10th birthday, but after reading it, I will wait a year or 2 to do so as the story may be more suitable for an older reader. But I really liked it myself.
