We were excited to buy this book, but were very disappointed. There are cute drawings, but it is almost devoid of content. We are so disappointed,
High quality book using beautiful illustrations that delivers a great and necessary learning experience for children. I taught my two (now grown) sons that "please" was a magic word along with the magic words of "thank you." They would actually tell other children they needed to learn the two "magic" words because you "don't get what you want if you don't say them!" As grown men, they have often thanked me for teaching them the value of "courtesy" because they have often been complemented for their thoughtfulness even by their own employees. I hope O'Reilly and Patterson write a sequel along the lines of "Give Thank You A Chance" although I do recognize the "play on words" with the late '60's chant!
I was so excited to get this book when I watched O'Riley Factor and saw him promote it. I figured it is something my 3 year old would learn fairly well, especially if he saw it in child form. But I was wrong! This book is AWFUL! It is essentially random phrases on one page, with lackluster sketches on the other followed by the word please. Half of the sentences do not even make sense, even he noticed that and he has no education! Come on, Bill and John this is simply embarrassing to even slap your name on. My 3 year old can do better than you guys did.
We gave this to our 2 year old for Christmas! It is a super cute book! It asks a lot of questions and after each says "please"! By the middle of the book my LO was saying "please" with me as I read and wanted to read it again! To me, the artwork makes this book! Each page has a different artist and is quite funny if you look are carefully. Glad we got this for her!
Very Disappointed with this book No Content at all
My grandchildren liked having this read to them. I liked it but not a 5 star read. It really could of been written to hold a child's interest better.As I got to the 3rd page they were just saying "say Please" the book did not really say much else. Not worth the price.
I really wanted to love this book... I bought it for my granddaughter (age 4) for Christmas. Since I am reviewing this before Christmas, I haven't actually given her the book, so I don't have her opinion to add here. Actually, I'm pretty sure she will love it. Here's why I don't...It is simply a series of children's requests followed by "Please?" (See photos) I think it will lead children to the conclusion that they will get whatever they want as long as they say please. In my house saying "please" and "thank you" are expected. We teach manners and respect for others. But just saying please does not guarantee a 'yes'. No matter how sweetly and politely she asks, she is not getting a pony! I was hoping for more from the book. As I said, the illustrations are lovely, but I was disappointed in the text.
I think my two year old Granddaughter will like this book, the illustrations are nice in it. Nothing profound, but a nice gift for a child who likes to read.
