This new book is packed full of awesomeness. I confess, I first started by just looking at all the glorious painting, but last night I started reading it! There are so many great idea generating suggestions! It's like a pound cake --super dense and full of goodness.Pros: While Danielle tells you how to make some of the projects, this is more about learning techniques. Plus -- there is a fabulous section on idea generation. I started implementing these last night -- and found them very helpful. Gorgeous images too.Cons: It's not magic -- you do have to do the work! :)
I’m absolutely delighted with this whimsical book by Danielle! The instruction and techniques are so cleverly outlined. It’s a book that welcomes the reader/artist into Danielle’s magical world of illustration & color. A book for any audience to enjoy, beginner to advanced watercolorist, there’s something for everyone. Love it!!!
I have a "love/a waste of money" debate going on in my mind over this book.It's gorgeous, lovely to look at, as a paper lover I love the paper it's on (slick and glossy and perfect for running your hand over it). If you enjoy the authors designs and find them inspiring you'll get lots of inspiration her.But...there's very little technique offered in this book. Considering how small this book is, 143 pages including front pages, index and ads for other books, I would have preferred those pages be used for techniques. Instead, the first 13 pages are the same things you get in many books..a list of supplies and tools and papers. The next 10 pages are on making mixed media art journal books (huh?). Then you finally get about 15 pages of techniques on both painting and composition and such. There are 54 pages of her art, very pretty, very inspiring. The rest of the book are her walk throughs of how she paints various things (chairs, sofa's, people, etc.) and having you do some practice.So, when you add it all up, there's very little techniques, lots of inspiration. So while I love the look and feel of her art and this book, I didn't get much out of it, hence my love/waste of money debate.
What wonderful book. Great illustration and projects, as a retired art teacher of 35 years I would have loved having your book to assist my teaching. Have learned more from your book on technique and practice than any of the classes I have taken in watercolor. You allow people to grow individually and without any sense of right or wrong. No rules just glorious exploration and guidance. You have inspired my own style and creativity. I am part of a group of three women who get together each week to work through your book and lessons. We are amazed each week how individual our works looks while completing the sams project. Great job. Thank you so much.
Love Danielle's style. This book has a creative A to Z format that's fun and beautiful. Seriously, this art is frame-worthy. The only request I'd have is that I wish it was spiral bound so it could lay flat. I plan to go through every page, and complete the watercolor assignments. Danielle is a great teacher, and I highly recommend this book
I don't often write reviews but this book deserves the time to do so. I saw it as a preorder when I was looking at other books and fell in love with the images and the "preview" pages. I was not disappointed at all. Full of wonderful and insightful instructions and ideas. I immediately started looking up more about the author and love what she has to offer although the book can stand alone as well with the degree of detail it has. I intend to spend many hours with it this year.
This book is indeed a book where you will "find your happy watercolor place". I love to watercolor, but painting nature scenes wasn't what I wanted to paint. Danielle Donaldson's new book (as well as her first book "Creative Girl") shows water colorists how this medium can be used in fun and quirky ways! There are new water color techniques, art lessons, beautiful examples and wonderful ideas for bringing your water color art to the next level. Danielle is a brilliant teacher....leading her students through the processes step by step, page by page. This book is my happy place! LOVE IT!
This is my second book by Danielle Donaldson. I love this one as much if not more than the first! Danielle goes into a lot of great information as well as great photos and lessons. If I have but one complaint it is my own, and that is I bought it on my Kindle which I love love love, however I love this book so much I want to hold it in my hands! I want to turn the pages the actual pages. I want to smell the newness of it. I want to put it on my bookshelf with my other great and inspirational books by so many great artists. Thank you Danielle for yet another great book of lessons and love!
