Comply is the first book in the Shattered series by Lee Manarate. I believe Comply is also her debut novel. I enjoyed reading this book, more than I thought I would. This book is set in an interesting world with people that have superpowers are basically oppressed and enslaved by humans. There are also gods of this world, that everybody has forgotten about. With the worldbuilding and the main characters storyline made this book a quick and interesting read. I read this book in less than one day. The writing style was good, and it had me hooked from the beginning.The main character Declan Forester is a Zedian (a person with superpowers/gifts), and his power deals with healing and energy bending. Declan due to unforeseen consequences of his actions gets caught up with the government and he has to focus on surviving. Adam Davenport is the other main character and he is a human and works for the government. Adam grew on me, but I hope in the other books in the series we will learn more about Adam.One of my favorite things about the book was the ending. It was good, and it was also unexpected, and it left me wanting to read the second book in the series and see what happens next. Overall, this book was a great debut novel. There were a couple of mistakes here and there, but it did not detract me from the story, and I still enjoyed the book a lot.I recommend this book, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Amazing descriptions of the characters and events help engulf you into the universe created with these pages. I was sucked right into the story from the start and it would not let me go. I can not wait to see what book two will bring.I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
This was an amazing debut. The characters were engaging and really came alive, I was totally invested in the outcome of their journey. The world building was top notch, I was drawn in from the beginning. The dark storyline was compelling, I for myself reading well into the night because I couldn't put it down. Ok. Like whoa!This was one hell of a ride! First off, the world building was absolutely brilliant. I loved the characters as well, they will well writtenand engaging, especially Darren.This book was dark, gritty and had me on the edge of my seat through out the whole story.This was a wonderful debut book by an author I will most definitely keep my eye on. I highly recommend this and now the wait for book two starts.

This story sucked me in right away, and I devoured it in one sitting.I couldn't help but feel Declan and Darren's pain and fear as they went through their torture. Both have no choice but to follow orders, unless they want to be re-educated, which in itself is terrifying.I was surprised at the reasons behind needing Darren to become stronger, and for Declan to be there to heal him as he "trained". I wasn't expecting there to be Gods involved in this. But, it works, and makes for quite the ending.I am now eagerly awaiting the next book!
