I have tried to read all of Casey Watson's books. It is interesting that it is non-fiction based on real-life stories by this foster carer. In the case of this book I also became aware of the Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and the terrible consequences it has on a child yet unborn. I looked up this handicap on internet and discovered that it is not unfrequent in heavy drinking moms. Good reading and valuable lessons for life.
I have read everyone of Casey's books. This book in particular, was one of her best. She is an excellent author in that she actually makes you feel like you're part of her family. She is also one of the best carers of foster children. Her expertise, empathy, and technique I remarkable. She and her husband, Mike, make a truly admirable team. I can't wait for her next book.
This was a great book about a little girl that thought she was ugly. She was taken away. From her mother because her mommy was an alcoholic and didn't take care of her. Her foster family changed her life. You must Read This book.
I've read all of the books by this person, and enjoy the stories of the children they care for as well as of her own family.
Such an unbelievably sad story. The writer kept me interested. Such a wonderful foster carer.
Once again, Casey Watson writes an "Epic" story. You'll get the pun when you read the book. This one actually brought tears of happiness to my eyes at the end of the story. We need more people like the Watsons in this world.

This is a good Casey Watson memoir. I enjoyed reading it, and it is written in CW's typical casual style re: language and events. Her descriptions can be humorous in the midst of a serious and emotional situation. The family members from previous books are present and well-depicted, and also some new 'characters'. Tyler, the foster child from the last book, learned to accept Flip almost too easily.I would have liked to know more about his adjustment to long-term care- he was a little hooligan in the last book, but a dear soul. I just think he would not be so compliant and affectionate to this new child. I do not find the title was all that relevant to 'Flip's' case. She did have a problem with her appearance but this seemed not to affect her as much as the title would imply. As well, FAS can be very serious as is ADHD, both of which this little girl suffers from. I felt Casey glossed over just how affected a child would be.Somehow I did not connect with Flip; she was just not too likable- this had nothing to do with her problems. I'm not sure if it was the writing or the actual child or why I did not feel the way I do about most kids in fostering memoirs.I felt the ending was rushed with the best possible outcome for all. Not the best of CW, but certainly worth a read.
